Adrian Durham called VAR “a total and absolute joke” and says that referee HQ Stockley Park is “a comedy club” after another farcical afternoon for video technology.
The talkSPORT host believes that VAR has “achieved the impossible” and is EVEN BETTER after Giovani Lo Celso escaped a red card for a stamp on Cesar Azpilicueta during Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.
Lo Celso captured the Blues skipper in full with his shin with his studs in a bad crash in the second half at Stamford Bridge.
There was a long delay when the Stockley Park video-referee saw several replays, but his decision was to leave the Spurs midfielder off the hook without even a yellow card.
The VAR verdict was that it was not an obvious and obvious error by ref on the field Michael Oliver because he felt that “there was no other place for him [Lo Celso] put your foot “.
But embarrassingly the PGMOL later admitted the mistake, saying – even before the game was over – the challenge “marked the boxes” to be a red card, but reiterated that a human being was making a subjective decision .
Lampard exhaled the decision, saying that VAR in its current form “is not good enough”, while Azpilicueta admitted his surprise Lo Celso was not expelled for his “clear stamp”.
And Durham let go of the live technology on talkSPORT after the game, accusing PGMOL of not being adequately prepared for its introduction this season.
The host said, “VAR has just achieved the impossible – it’s even worse!
“Letting the referees work VAR has always been a risk, but today it was simply ridiculous.
“Lo Celso impressed Azpilicueta and I was surprised when Michael Oliver, who is our best reference, didn’t give it to me, but I fell out of my chair when the VAR decided it wasn’t a clear and obvious mistake.
“To say that Lo Celso had no other place to put his foot?! Incredibly wrong!
“And then, with the game still going on, Stockley Park admitted that it was wrong and that it should have been red.
Chelsea have still won the game, but Stockley Park is now a comedy club, a total joke.
“It’s unacceptably bad, ridiculous. Today they literally had to run a VAR check on the VAR – unbelievable!
“People are kind admiring the honesty of Stockley Park who keeps his hands raised, fairly fair, but defeats the whole VAR point.
“It works badly, they weren’t ready for this this season.
“It’s a total and total joke and something has to be done.”
