“I went up behind and touched my bra.” Details of the story about a Perm teacher who was given 9 years for harassing a student

– It is difficult to build forecasts, but I believe in the best. I feel sorry for mom, she is very worried, it has been going on for more than a year, – said “KP» 49-year-old math teacher Valery Syropyatov and, with a sigh, he entered the courtroom.

On Monday in the Ordzhonikidze court Perm the teacher was sentenced under the article “Violent acts of a sexual nature”. The sentence is 9 years and 6 months in a maximum security colony.

“The girl begged the three”

This ugly story happened in March last year in a Perm school. According to the teacher, she looked like this:

– In the seventh grade, where the girl studied, I taught mathematics for the first year. In the first quarter, she deceived me, I believed and put the “troika”. But there must be an educational moment. I told her that now she will hand over all the work in the sequence in which they are studied. And until we get to the control for the third quarter, the final mark at her will not be!

On that day, March 27, several students came to the mathematician to take the “tails”.

“Everyone sat at their desks and did the work, and once again she decided to slip away,” the teacher continues. – I began to ask myself, said that her stomach ached, her head … I insisted: “Decide the control, get your” threefold “and you can step on all four sides. If it’s inconvenient for you to study in the classroom – the children are noisy – let’s go to another office. ” We left, she stood at the table and again began to whine. I sit at the table and tell her: “Go, decide!” The man does not leave, I waved. I am sitting, she is standing – where will i get? Here in the belt on the side with the back of the hand and hit. It turned out cotton. I admitted this, and was removed by the director from teaching in this class. I apologized and believed that the incident had been exhausted.

Soon, the information got into law enforcement. First, criminal proceedings were instituted for Art. Art. 135 of the Criminal Code RF “Depraved actions”, and after six months the investigations were re-qualified as more serious, Art. 132 “Violent acts of a sexual nature.”

At each meeting, teachers supported

To the court – at each hearing in the Valery case Syropyatova – a support group gathered: former graduates, colleagues, parents of students … 17 of them acted as witnesses from the defense. They all said that they could not believe the guilt of their beloved teacher. He does not smoke, does sports, organizes excursions around the Perm Territory and cities for children Of Russiaorganizes competitions in rogain, tourist trips, alloys, fees …

Despite all the kind words spoken to the defendant, the state prosecution requested 13 years of imprisonment for him.

Valery Syropyatov on the day the sentence was announced, we met near the courthouse. He was light, without things. As the teacher himself explained, he believed that the court would figure it out and justify it.

“I’ve already checked in, now I’ll take a little walk, breathe in fresh air, mentally tune in and go,” he explained before entering the courtroom.

Despite the fact that the process was closed, the journalists and the support group were allowed to announce the verdict.

It was impossible to understand what the teacher experienced at that moment when the judge said “nine and a half years in a maximum security colony”, the teacher’s face was hidden under a mask. And the former graduates and colleagues who were present at the announcement somehow immediately went down. Someone could not hold back tears.

– Do you understand the verdict and the procedure for appealing against it?

“Yes, your honor,” the convict answered calmly.

At that moment, three escorts entered the courtroom. Knowing the rules of staying in places of deprivation of liberty — the teacher spent three days in a pre-trial detention center while the investigation was under way — the teacher began to unfasten his belt in order to remove it, took money from his pockets, a cell phone and gave it to a relative. The guards locked handcuffs on his hands, and asked all those present to leave the courtroom.

I closed and he pushed my hands away

– The criminal case was considered in closed court, so we can’t explain the details, you heard the verdict, the evidence that the prosecution presented to the court was enough to plead guilty to a particularly serious crime against the sexual integrity of a minor, therefore the sentence so big – said assistant to the prosecutor of the Ordzhonikidze district of Perm, Dmitry Shishkin. – And that slap, and the version that the defendant himself told everyone about, including in the media, is a way of protection.

As it became known to “Komsomolskaya Pravda” from a source familiar with the materials of the criminal case, one of the evidence presented in court was the correspondence of the seventh grader with his girlfriend in social networks. Late in the evening on the day of math retaking, the schoolgirl wrote to her close friend that she was at school, and the teacher took her to a separate office, put her at her desk, walked up behind and began to touch her bra.

“I sat at the table, he was at the back and was pawing me,” she wrote. – I tried to close my hands, and he pushed his hands and touched me by the chest.

Experts examined the girl for bruises and the only thing found on her body was a small scratch on her finger.

The accusation was also based on the words of the girl, her mother and friend. Investigators also found a video from school surveillance cameras, which shows how one of the schoolgirls told Valery Nikolaevich that she had passed the debt, and he leaned over and began to say in her ear that she was good. This was interpreted later as a kiss.

During the investigation, a forensic medical examination was carried out, the biological traces of the teacher on the things of the victim were not found. The teacher was also tested for a tendency to pedophilia, but the result was negative.

The best sports movies and where to stream them

We asked sports writers, columnists and editors of the Washington Post to tell us their favorite sports movies to watch while the real sport world is on hiatus.

Geena Davis starred in the role of Dottie Hinson in “A league of their own”. (Ronald Grant Archive / Mary Evans)

Baseball

“A League of Own Own” (1992)
Available for streaming on Amazon

I have seen “A league of their own” more than any other sports film and I appreciate it even more today. Penny Marshall’s masterpiece always makes me laugh and cry despite what Jimmy Dugan’s Tom Hank character would like you to believe about the latter’s absence in baseball. The acting, led by Geena Davis and Lori Petty, is superb, and is (loosely) based on the true American women’s professional baseball league, so it also serves as a fun history lesson. – Scott Allen (see review)

“Bull Durham” (1988)
Amazon

The reference film for me. It has big lines like “The rose goes in the foreground, big boy”, “The world is made for people who are not cursed by self-awareness” and, above all, “Don’t think. It can only hurt the club.” And if lines like that don’t, how about the ending? “Walt Whitman once said,” I see great things in baseball. It’s our game. The American game. It will repair our losses and it will be a blessing for us. “You could try.” – Cindy Boren (see review)

“The Natural” (1984)
Amazon, Netflix

Barry Levinson’s pure Hollywood interpretation of Bernard Malamud’s dark novel of 1952 is a perfect piece of escape from celluloid for these days of covid-19. Set in New York in the 1930s, Robert Redford plays imperfect hero Roy Hobbs, Glenn Close and Kim Basinger are his competing romantic interests, Robert Duvall, the tough sports scribe and Barbara Hershey the woman of a dark chapter of his past, a past that Duvall’s Max Mercy digs. And Wilford Brimley takes a wonderful turn as Hobb’s manager for the New York Knights. There is a club called “Wonderboy”, a home run that turns off the stadium lights and a literally pulverized baseball. What else do you need when you’re closed without baseball? – Micah Pollack

“Little Big League” (1994)
Amazon

An underrated sports movie about a 12 year old who becomes the manager of the Minnesota Twins. First, it has big cameos from (then) current players: Ken Griffey Jr. and Randy Johnson. Secondly, it’s the rare sports movie that doesn’t fall into the trap of a traditional Hollywood finale. (This isn’t a spoiler!) Third, it’s a touching story about how to grow but also appreciate the childhood joys of baseball. – Ben Strauss (see review)

“The Sandlot” (1993)
Amazon

Isn’t there a better representation of how baseball brings children together and who doesn’t want to be just like Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez, whom we know as “The Jet”? Growing up, my summer camp during the summer showed this film on a grainy projector every time it rained, I must have seen it almost 100 times in 12 years and it hasn’t aged yet. – Jesse Dougherty (see review)

“The Bad News Bears” (1976)
Amazon, Hulu

The original “Bad News Bears” is the best baseball movie ever made, and I’d be on Kevin Costner’s side table in my old baseball cleats and I’d say so. For those of us of a certain age, it was a wonderfully accurate representation of youth and youth sports. We all wanted to be Kelly Leak, but unfortunately I was somewhere between Ogilvie and Engelberg. – Dave Sheinin

“Major League” (1989)
Amazon

Despite growing up in Massachusetts, my favorite athletes were a couple of Cleveland Indians: Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn and Willie Mays Hayes. Baseball can be slow and boring, but not with these guys involved: a fire-breathing pitcher who can’t see the pot until he gets his glasses and an arrogant leadoff hitter who “can run like Mays but [who hits] as s — “as manager Lou Brown eloquently says. The” Major League “VHS tape had a lot of time to play at my house and the R-class humor hit the spot for this kid. And ignore what Rotten Tomatoes’ snobs think; “Major League II”, with Vaughn (still played by Charlie Sheen) and Hayes (who changes from Wesley Snipes to Omar Epps in the off-season) is another gem. – Mark Selig (see review)

Denzel Washington starred as Coach Herman Boone in “Remember the Titans”. (Walt Disney Co./Everett Collection)

Football

“Remember the Titans” (2000)
Amazon, Disney +

In addition to the local charm of the fascinating and incredible history of the 1971 T.C. Williams High Football Team, this is a wellness film filled with a surprising number of superstar actors, from Denzel Washington to a young and foolish Ryan Gosling, and they prevent the film from becoming too mushy. It wouldn’t be the best sports movie on my list – not with “Hoosiers” and “He Got Game” and “Jerry Maguire” elevating the genre – but it’s the most compelling. – Jerry Brewer (see review)

“Jerry Maguire” (1996)
Amazon, Netflix

Is it strictly a sports movie? Of course, NFL agents also deserve brilliance, but with DNA being a bit of a romantic comedy, a small drama and a small sports film, there is something for everyone. This film is infinitely quoted and impeccably written in a way that is no longer a hit film, and as a highlight it features one of the best scenes in the recent history of a protagonist whizzing through the airport. (This is not an original opinion, but Tom Cruise is our best film runner.) Cuba Gooding Jr. as a large receiver Rod Tidwell is simply perfect. – Ava Wallace (see review)

Rudy (1993)
Amazon

This film is so sweet that it borders on cheese, but no one can question how inspirational it is for all the kids out there. “Rudy” should be used as a test for psychologists – if you don’t cry in the end, then you’re a sociopath. – Candace Buckner (see review)

“Friday Night Lights” (2004; 2006-11)
Amazon, Hulu

The television series (2006-11) perfectly tells what sport means for a community. The characters are imperfect and complex. Matt Saracen’s relationship with coach Taylor resonates with anyone who has ever wanted to please a coach or who has struggled with the absence of a parent. I think the television series is superior to the film, but the film (2004) has a significant element in the lack of the comparable first season of the television series: an imperfect end. I have watched episodes of the TV series several times and have only seen the film once or twice. But the scene of the film from that last game, which presents few dialogues and brilliant music, remains true to me. I think it’s powerful – the moment the protagonist doesn’t win. – Emily Giambalvo

“Any Given Sunday” (1999)
Amazon, Netflix

Easily the most realistic NFL movie I’ve ever seen, from front-office politics to the realities of life as a black quarterback. If you think the film is exaggerated, I challenge you to name something that happens in the film that has no analogue in real life. It just happens that everything goes on the same team, in the same season. – Robert Klemko (see review)

“Brian’s Song” (1971)
Amazon

It’s a TV movie that could only have been made in the 70s, but it’s still one of the best. James Caan and Billy Dee Williams? Come on. I read the book “I Am Third” before I saw the movie, and I cried. I saw the movie and cried. If your heartstrings are unsustainable, just look at the highlights of Gale Sayers, one of the great guys whose knee injuries today would not be a career end. – Tracee Hamilton

Gene Hackman starred as Coach Norman Dale in “Hoosiers”. (Orion Pictures / Everett Collection)

Basketball

“Hoosiers” (1986)
Amazon, Hulu

The best works of fiction have a strong sense of time and place, and few sports films capture the dynamic ones and this representation of the grip of basketball on Indiana. Equally significant, the film comes to the essential question of sport: why do they count? For most of the film, Barbara Hershey’s character Myra Fleener is dismissive and puzzled by the significance of basketball in her fictional city of Hickory, although her mother is among the most fervent fans, and both Gene Hackman and the characters by Dennis Hopper illustrate how a game can both buoy and haunt the human spirit. Add that it’s based on a true story – Bobby Plump’s buzzer for little Milan High in the 1954 state championship – and subtle touches like Hickory’s last coaching opponent played by Ray Crowe – Crispus’ real-life coach Oscar Robertson’s Attucks team that AC Milan defeated in the final – and you’ve got something worth repeating every year this month. – Matt Rennie (see review)

“Love & Basketball” (2000)
Amazon

An adult story that tells love stories, a “great game”, a family drama and a former black male protagonist? They designed this film in a laboratory just for me! – Alexa Steele (see review)

“Space Jam” (1996)
Amazon, Netflix

As a fourth grade crazy for basketball, I thought “Space Jam” was the pinnacle of cinema. (I later found out that he didn’t win a single Oscar – a real parody.) The collaboration with Michael Jordan with the Saturday morning cartoon stars combined my two loves and led me to watch my VHS copy at least a hundred times. Years later, three things continue to exist: the cover of Seal’s “Fly Like an Eagle”, the opening scene of Jordan’s main highlights and, of course, Bill Murray. – Thomas Johnson (see review)

“He Got Game” (1998)
Amazon, Hulu

Denzel Washington in his elementary school a young Ray Allen on basketball and life after being released from prison. The film also features a classic scene for sneakerheads and introduces an iconic shoe nickname: He Got Game Jordan 13. Great performances by a young Milla Jovovich and Rosario Dawson and a who who who of the cameos of the sports world – Jim Brown, Shaquille O ‘Neal, Rick Fox, Charles Barkley, Dean Smith, John Thompson, Roy Williams, Nolan Richardson, Rick Pitino, Reggie Miller, Michael Jordan, Bill Walton and others. Oh, and did we mention it’s a Spike Lee Joint ?! – Kareem Copeland (see review)

“Coach Carter” (2005)
Amazon

Since my favorite teams rarely won as a child, my love of sport was never tied to the joyful feelings that accompany a team that ends the year as the last standing team. Instead, he was rooted in the emotional ups and downs that ultimately determined his fate. While most sports films fly over difficult times as they describe the story of another happy ending, storybook ending, “Coach Carter” encapsulates what it feels like to watch your team reach the end of the rainbow, just for discover that a leprechaun has trapped overflowing the pot of gold. – Tramel Raggs

“Glory Road” (2006)
Amazon, Disney +

When the DVD arrived in the mail, I didn’t know anything about Don Haskins or Texas Western. But then, one night of family films, I learned the extraordinary history of the 1966 NCAA men’s basketball national champions, the first black lineup in NCAA history. For a mid-90s boy born and raised in a small rural community in New Hampshire, the film was a portal for a time and a place. I realized his true power years later when, during a cross-country travel trip, I stopped in El Paso, I reached the center of Don Haskins and I realized that the people I remembered as characters were human forces of change. – Sam Fortier (see review)

Kurt Russell starred in the role of Coach Herb Brooks in “Miracle”. (Buena Vista / Everett Collection)

Hockey

“Miracle” (2004)

I’m sure many sports fans – and hockey fans in particular – have put this film at the top of their lists, but no matter how many times I watch “Miracle”, I come away with a sense of joy and hope. From the iconic “Who do you play for?” to the end, it is a classic inspiring and moving film that captures The United States men’s hockey team shocked the Soviets at the 1980 Winter Olympics. It reaffirms life lessons in the best possible way. It’s the classic loser story – and hey, it’s about hockey. – Samantha Pell

“Slap Shot” (1977)
Amazon, Hulu

An immortal classic and probably the best sports film ever made, it has generated a hundred quotable lines that you carry with you forever. “Old-time hockey.” Great sports stories are not sentimental; they have a cutting edge of truth and comedy like this. It was written by a woman, Nancy Dowd, who showed me (a teenager at the time) that the female point of view could be distinctly attentive, funny and not displeased – and more true. And that a great writer can radically change gears. Although it was simply considered a cult comedy when it came out, there is nothing but great talent scattered throughout “Slap Shot”, with Paul Newman, directed by George Roy Hill (“Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid”, ” The Sting “) and the fabulous Swoosie Kurtz and Lindsay Crouse as brutally bored hockey wives -” I only drink in the afternoon. Or before a game. Or when Johnny is gone. “But some of the best pieces are cameos from strangers, especially those guys who played the Hanson brothers. – Sally Jenkins (see review)

Caddyshack (1980)

Bill Murray should have been nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of spokesman Carl Spackler, a revolutionary performance on so many levels. Practically every kid of a certain generation can quote most of the film, if not the whole thing. In addition, golf is the sport that will most likely be played during the new coronavirus outbreak. Lots of space for social removal on the course. I forgot to mention my all-time favorite movie quote comes from Caddyshack, courtesy of Al Czervik, so eloquently interpreted by Rodney Dangerfield: “I think this place is limited, Wang, so don’t tell them you’re Jewish okay? Well.” – Gene Wang

“Tin Cup” (1996)
Amazon

I saw it for the first time with my father, in high school, when sports and especially golf were helping us to bond. For the next few years we played every day, cheered Tiger Woods shamelessly and watched “Tin Cup”, endlessly citing the philosophy of Kevin Costner’s imperfectly imperfect brittle in western Texas: about life, love , on the art of the wind – landing on the ground and letting the big dog eat. I haven’t played golf lately; my father, now seventy years old, took it back recently after a long pause, only to be forced to return home. But one day soon, I bet, we’ll talk and add a “Cup” quote to fill the silence with some laughter. – Joe Tone (see review)

“Happy Gilmore” (1996)
Amazon, Hulu

Why? Because the real winner today is the city of Portland. Every time I come here, it becomes more difficult to leave. I bet you put something in the water. The film transforms a hockey goon into a golf superstar of all men, transforms a high-level golfer into a first-rate insecure villain and manages to touch all the teenage humor and slapstick gags. It’s among the smartest stupid movies or the stupidest smart movies ever made. – Adam Kilgore (see review)

“When We Were Kings” (1996)
Hulu, HBO

Winner of the 1996 Oscar for best documentary film, it is a return trip to “Rumble in the Jungle”, the battle of Muhammad Ali-George Foreman of 30 October 1974, in Zaire (now Congo). It is also a study of how sports act as the main glue for the world across the six inhabited continents. It is also a reminder of the sport’s ability to present itself to boundless cultural tentacles, managing to present in an African, North American environment, an African American fighter from Louisville, an African American fighter from Houston, a military dictator and, of course, Don Re. He is also one of those cases where sport proves to be unequaled in the realm of geopolitics. It is also a masterpiece. – Chuck Culpepper (see review)

“The Wrestler” (2008)
Amazon

Watching a 50-year-old Mickey Rourke as a tortured, drunk, irritated ex-wrestling star is always incredibly powerful and has an all-time ending. Also: anyone who doesn’t think professional wrestlers are athletes should watch this movie. – Roman stubbs

The film, based on the autobiographical novel by Norman Maclean, tells the story of two very different siblings – one played by a young Brad Pitt – and how they compete to impress their father during the fly fishing trips in Montana in the 1900s. fishing are wonderfully constructed and exciting as they fight fish in the rushing waters. After one of these battles, Pitt stands triumphantly with a big fish on the bank of a river, the sun shining on him while Tom Skerritt takes his picture with such care and reverence that it makes you think he was capturing the Mona Lisa. The older brother, looking at his father and younger brother, smiles. – Mark Bradley (see review)

“Free Solo” (2018)
Amazon, Disney +, Hulu

Alex Honnold isn’t exactly a household name, but he may have completed the boldest athletic milestone in history in June 2017 when he became the first climber to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without ropes or protective gear. Oscar-winning documentary Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin superbly captures the details of the climb, including how Honnold mapped each crack and crevice of his path to the top as he basks in the magnificence of the feat with soaring cinematography. The documentary also exists as a metacommentary about his own morality while the filmmakers grapple with the possibility that their presence could be a deadly distraction during Honnold’s climb. But above all, it draws on Honnold’s idiosyncratic humor and humanity, reminding us that the world of sports can serve better characters than many of Hollywood’s best scribes. – Thomas Floyd (see review)

“The Cutting Edge” (1992)
Amazon, Hulu

Growing up, I was an figure skater, during the lessons before and after school, so my love for this film shouldn’t be surprising. If you haven’t seen it, it’s essentially a sports rom-com (who doesn’t like those?) On a stuck skater and a washed hockey player trying to win Olympic gold. It’s great. – Brianna Schroer

“Seine” (2010)
Amazon, Hulu

A compelling documentary that reveals the deep faith, complex psychology and competitive genius of Brazil’s three-time Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna. Without narration, director Asif Kapadia weaves the film from archival racing footage, home footage and interviews released by Senna during his rise to national hero and global icon. He was among the few runners to talk about the prospect of death and lobby for stricter safety standards. And his death, in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at 34, came too early. – Liz Clarke (see review)

“The Hustler” (1961)
Amazon

This is my favorite sports movie – and with a margin. Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) and Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason) fired all night in the next pool until the next day. Felson is far ahead ($ 11,000) and Fats and his manager / financier, Bert Gordon (George C. Scott), have to decide whether to continue playing. Felson, who drinks an entire bottle of bourbon during the 25-hour game, says to Fats: “I’m the best you’ve ever seen, Fats. I’m the best there is. Even if you beat me, I’m still the best “Gordon’s eyes snap as he says to Fats,” Stay with this kid. He’s a loser. “” What did he say? ” Felson says to his manager. The rest of the film talks about what he said, what it means and how big the price of the pain Felson has to pay – in lost love, in the responsibility of suicide, in self-destructive acts – to understand it. – Thomas Boswell
