Chinese tech giant Tencent is spending $ 1.27 billion, or some 1.08 billion euros after conversion, to take over the Sumo company. The latter is notably at the origin of Sackboy: A Big Adventure for the PlayStation 5.
Tencent already had an 8.75 percent stake in the UK game developer and will now hold a controlling stake.
Sumo is based in Sheffield (Great Britain). The company is behind some fairly well-known games, including a flagship title for the PS5, namely Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The studio was also the main developer of Crackdown 3 for the Xbox and the PC.
Following this takeover, Sumo becomes a component of Tencent, this large Chinese technology group best known for its mobile games. Tencent has also invested in a host of game companies, including Epic, Riot, Activision and Ubisoft.
