ANKARA, KOMPAS.com – A unit of a destroyer belonging to the United States Navy (US) sailed through the Bosphorus Strait and entered the Black Sea on Friday (11/6/2021).
The report was carried by the Turkish state news agency Anatolia. The destroyer belonging to the US Navy that entered the Black Sea was the USS Laboon.
The entry of the USS Laboon into the Black Sea comes at a time when tensions are growing around Ukraine AFP.

The USS Laboon voyage also came as US President Joe Biden met with Western leaders at the G7 summit in the UK.
After the G7 summit is complete, Biden will then travel to Brussels, Belgium, for a meeting with NATO.

The meeting with NATO is likely to focus heavily on the threat posed by Russia.
After that, Biden will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for high-stakes talks on Wednesday (16/6/2021) in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We are united to tackle Russia’s challenges to European security, starting with its aggression in Ukraine,” Biden wrote in The Washington Post before starting his journey abroad.
When he was vice president in the Barack Obama administration, Biden was Washington’s spearhead in Ukraine.
He backed Ukraine seeking to break away from Russian influence after the revolution in 2014 that toppled the Moscow-backed government.
On the one hand, the US regularly sends warships to the Black Sea region to show its support for Ukraine.
