Is called Sced-Cov, Clinical Epidemiological and Diagnostic Surveillance, the project started on May 4 by the University of Brescia, and which will last six months involving four companies in the Brescia area (Beretta, Feralpi, Streparava and Volpi): it is aimed at restarting production activities and provides daily clinical and epidemiological monitoring, also through an app developed ad hoc, and diagnostic of workers (with swabs and serological tests).
The details of the project
The project aims to optimize the level of safety within companies, as it makes use of the most technologically advanced tools to contrast the spread of infection within the workplace. The app will allow you to maintain a direct line of information with the competent doctor, to make sure that the diagnoses are as early as possible and the outbreaks are as limited as possible. Finally, the diagnostic tests, which represent the most advanced available today for an infection diagnosis.
The monitoring will involve from now to thousands of workers, who will be subjected to both swabs (to check for possible infection and therefore the risk of contagiousness) that to serological tests, useful instead to verify the presence of antibodies from Covid-19, and which therefore would signal the overcoming of the disease (even without evident symptoms).
Daily clinical monitoring
To the basic security protocol, which in fact contains additions starting from an initial agreement between the Government and the social partners, on 14 March last, until the Dpcm of 26 April, additional measures are added, including, in fact, daily clinical-epidemiological monitoring and advanced diagnostics. In the first case, workers will be asked to enter daily information in the app made available to the company on how they are and on risky contacts, both working and otherwise.
This will serve to identify subjects with symptoms as soon as possible, and consequently also contacts at risk. It is good to specify that the app will only contain health information, without invading the private sphere of the worker: the data will be available only to the competent doctor, the doctors of the ASST and the university.
From the point of view of diagnosis, all workers will be treated with the famous gold-pharyngeal swab, a collection of mucus and cells which is used to assess the presence of the virus at the time it is performed. At the same time, serological tests will be carried out, with blood sampling, to evaluate the presence of antibodies against the virus.

The Sced-Cov calendar
This is the organizational calendar of Sced-Cov: the insertion of data in the app will continue until September; swabs and serological tests will be carried out in May and then in September, with laboratory analyzes also in June and October. Finally, from August, a statistical-epidemiological analysis will be prepared which will build a unique health study to date. The participants will still have the support of a team of specialists from the Asst Spedali Civili di Brescia. The referents of the project are prof. Giuseppe De Palma of the University of Brescia and Dr. Michela Bezzi of the Asst Spedali Civili.
