In the first half of this year, Mazda opened a new page in its history and presented the first electric car – today, during an exclusive live broadcast, Latvians were introduced to the MX-30. The car stands out not only with its engine, but also with its design elements and even its name, as the letters MX denote only particularly important Mazda concepts and sports models. And only exclusive production cars get the letters MX, like the world’s best-selling convertible MX-5. Or the first electric car for comfortable driving around the city.

“The first mass-produced MX-30 marks a new chapter in Mazda’s history. It is the manufacturer’s first electric car, but its exclusive technical solutions and sophisticated model design have already been appreciated not only by Mazda enthusiasts, but also by electric car enthusiasts around the world, ”says Juste Šataitė, Mazda’s Baltic Marketing Manager.
Stylish and practical
Model MX-30 is equipped with a free-style door, which does not have a middle pillar, but has specially designed door hinges. The front door can be opened forward at an angle of 82 degrees, and the rear door can be opened at an angle of 80 degrees to the rear.
The wide opening makes it easy to get in and out of the car, whether you’re sitting in front or behind. In addition, it makes it easier to load and unload cargo.
The height and shape of the door is designed according to the size of the human body. The vertical door handle makes it easier to open and close the door, as the palm is less loaded even when the door is wide open.
The front seats are equipped with a special boarding system that keeps the backrest forwards at the touch of a button, while also pushing the seat itself forward, making it much easier to get in and out of the rear seats. The shape and design of the sills have also been carefully designed to make getting out of the car even more comfortable.
The 366-liter luggage compartment is designed to suit families with different lifestyles, while the additional underfloor compartment allows you to comfortably accommodate smaller items. The height of the luggage compartment threshold is adapted to the size of the human body, making it as easy as possible to load and unload luggage.
Modern and cozy salon
The instrument panel has an integrated 7-inch TFT LCD screen that displays key travel information. The standard projection screen that appears on the windshield allows you to review the information you need without taking your eyes off the road.
With a 7-inch screen mounted in the center of the car, it is possible to control the climate control system, regulate the air flow and seat heating. Climate control is programmed to change the temperature by half a degree with a short tap, but can be changed by three degrees by swiping your finger across the screen. The system also provides an audible signal to indicate confirmation of each action.
Physical buttons installed around the perimeter of the screen are an alternative to screen control – they can be used to turn the air conditioner on and off, adjust the temperature, wind speed and window blowing. These buttons are easy to press, even when doing gloves.
The MX-30’s center console features an 8.8-inch multimedia screen. The content in this two-screen configuration is displayed in the same font as on other screens, thus maintaining the overall visual appearance of the cabin.
The MX-30 can be bundled with one of two audio systems – the Mazda Harmonic Accoustics or the optional twelve-speaker Bose Premium audio system.
A future without accidents
In its selfless care for the future of society without accidents, Mazda is constantly improving the safety performance of Mazda’s Proactive Safety philosophy.
Although the MX-30 is equipped with a door without a center pillar, the car’s body combines high power and efficient energy absorption, achieving excellent safety results in the event of a collision. Mazda engineers have used technology and concepts, including a carefully designed structure that protects the high-voltage battery.
The MX-30 is also equipped with a collection of advanced i-Activsense security systems. The Turn-Across Traffic monitoring system, which is installed in conjunction with the Smart Brake Support system, helps to avoid collisions at intersections. Turning to the left, the forward-facing camera and millimeter-wave radar sensors monitor oncoming cars. If the system detects a possible collision, it automatically activates the brakes, thus helping to avoid an accident or reduce possible damage.
New technologies include Emergency Lane Keeping and Road Keep Assist, which help keep the car in the right place on the road, even when no road markings are visible. The emergency lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring assist system helps to avoid accidents when changing lanes.
At speeds above approximately 60 km / h, the front camera monitors the roadside, grass and other natural elements of the unmarked roadside. If the system detects conditions that could cause the car to derail, it automatically adjusts the steering direction and helps the driver turn in the desired direction.
New electric drive technology
Along with the MX-30, the new electric drive technology or e-Skyactiv is also presented. Generating maximum power of 107 kW / 145 hp and 207 Nm of torque, the MX-30, equipped with front-wheel drive, will develop acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 9.7 seconds.
Its wheels are powered by a water-cooled motor together with a 355 V lithium-ion battery system that generates 35.5 kWh of power. At 19 kWh / 100 km (combined WLTP cycle), the MX-30 for the city can cover 200 km on a single charge – much more than the average European does on a daily basis. Mazda and its partners conducted a study, which found that the world’s population drives an average of 48 km a day.
The new Mazda MX-30 can already be tried and ordered at Mazda dealerships in Latvia.
