The ferry F.-A.-Gauthier, which provides the link between Matane and the North Shore, would again be out of service for an indefinite period due to a serious mechanical failure.
The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) said on Twitter that an oil leak explains the cancellation of Friday crossings. According to several sources, this oil leak would come from the thrusters.
“The repair time is not yet known, we are investigating the cause”, we can read on the Traverse de Matane page.
For the moment, impossible to know the extent of the damage. However, it is known that the ship NM Saaremaa will leave the port of Trois-Rivières on Saturday morning in the direction of Matane. Recall that the NM Saaremaa was urgently purchased by the STQ in 2019 to become the official relief vessel for the F.-A.-Gauthier.
At 3 p.m. on Friday, the Société des traversiers had still not taken stock of the situation.
