The Gospel Heart Girona celebrates 15 years with a gospel mass at the Auditorium of Girona

The Auditori de Girona will host this Friday, at two in the evening, the 15-year celebration concert of the Gospel Heart Girona, with the special attraction that will be interpreted as a gospel mass.

For an hour and a half, the concert will have two very different parts. In the first part, the heart will interpret, for the first time in its history, the Gospel Mass, a composition by the American Robert Ray (1946).

The work is based on the ordinary of the Mass: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. But the composer has inserted some text of prayer or biblical images, and added a whole section, the acclamation, the Alleluia before the gospel.

The structure of the mass has been arranged by all the great composers, from the Gregorian one to the present, passing through Bach, Mozart or Beethoven, among others. Ray wanted to combine centuries of tradition of the classical compositions of the Mass with the rhythm and harmony of gospel, the music of the African-American church.

"The piece has become a standard of the choir repertoire and is sung in both churches and concert halls for choirs around the world," reports the Gospel Heart in a statement.

In the second part of the concert, Cor Gospel Girona will offer the public several songs from its repertoire. The work, which will be directed by Xavier Thió, director of the choir group, will be in charge of: Cor Gospel Girona; Daniel Sánchez I Judit Ripoll, soloists; David Poblete, keyboard; Quim Prat, battery

The story of the Gospel Choir Girona began with the visit of the Central Choir, gospel coral of Charlotte (USA), in October 2004, in the Girona region. After the "Gospel Life 2004" tour, a hundred people who had attended the tour concerts expressed the desire to form a gospel choir in Girona. Work began in December 2004 under the name Kérigma. These beginnings were directed by Alberto Salomone i Graciela Menzano.

For five years, the choir is directed by Xavier Thió, a music and theater professional and a great connoisseur of the gospel genre. The pianist has also joined the project David Poblete and the Quim Prat battery. At the moment, the choir is formed by more than ninety singers.
