The saliva test made in France EasyCov soon to be deployed in France? The Haute Autorité de santé (HAS) should issue a report on the EasyCov test in the coming days. A positive evaluation would allow the Ministry of Health to authorize its reimbursement by health insurance, and therefore its deployment in France.
A precious sesame that the company SkillCell, which markets EasyCov and which presented the results of the clinical study of the test in early October, is eagerly awaiting. “The results transmitted by the laboratory have been analyzed and consolidated, and are judged in the light of the existing scientific literature”, HAS told Industrie & Technologies to justify the weeks between the announcement of the results and the publication of its opinion.
The EasyCov kit makes it possible to carry out a Covid-19 diagnosis in less than 40 minutes. The saliva, taken under the tongue and heated twice, is immersed in a revealing liquid. The interim results, communicated but not published in a peer-reviewed journal, show a sensitivity of 75.9% on 270 samples compared to salivary and nasopharyngeal RT-PCR tests. Performance which, combined with speed and ease of use, could make this test a key tool for successful screening.
Since obtaining the CE mark in June, EasyCov has been sold abroad by the hundreds of thousands. France is waiting for HAS. “Recently, the Vendée has acquired tests for its nursing homes, says Alexandra Prieux, president of SkillCell. They want to be ready to deploy them when HAS gives its approval. “
Even with this approval, the time taken by HAS to rule on EasyCov will weigh on the extent of the deployment of the test. SkillCell currently produces 150,000 to 200,000 tests per week. “If we get approval this month, we will be able to triple our capacities by January, specifies Alexandra Prieux. We have optimized the production line, but we did not prepare as much as we wanted. Without any feedback or support from the government, it is impossible to anticipate more without endangering our company. “
