We already know a little more about the new and long-awaited Ducati Multistrada V4, the trail bike that will lead the Italian brand’s adventurous range. The latest announced while waiting for the official presentation on November 4 are the details of its mechanics.

The motor V4 Granturismo will be in charge of moving this machine thanks to its 170 CV of power, extracted from a block that has increased its levels to 1158 cc and promises less periodic maintenance.

Between what those of Borgo Panigale have been releasing and what has escaped from different sources, we practically had everything about the new engine that the Ducati Multistrada V4 is going to release, a block that takes the surname Granturismo and that derives from the Desmosedici Stradale that mounts the Ducati Panigale.

But as expected, some fine tweaks have been made to match the manufacturer’s asphalt trail styling. Displacement has finally risen from 1,103 to 1.158 cc, with a power that is now 170 hp (for the 214 hp of the Panigale V4) and a maximum torque set at 125 Nm, similar to that of the Italian sports car.

It was more than clear that in the Multistrada V4 the power of the original block would be reduced, as it is an adventure type motorcycle in which greater driving smoothness is sought, and its weight has even been reduced by about 1.2 kg with with respect to the two-cylinder that the Ducati Multistrada 1260, with 158 CV.

The changes in the distribution, with a spring return valve system that forces the components less, have been key when building a block based on the four cylinder they already had but without the famous Desmodromic system. This is how they manage to extend maintenance such as the valve clearance up to 60,000 km or the air filter up to 30,000 km.

Not to mention the automatic deactivation performed by the rear cylinder bank when the engine is idling, with obvious fuel savings. And all this in a mechanism that is coupled to a six-speed gearbox with the house’s quick shifter, with the usual semi-dry sump lubrication and the multi-disc servo-assisted clutch with anti-rebound function.
