The man who made Sedanos Supermarkets the largest Hispanic chain in the US has died

Manuel Herrán, who made Sedano’s the largest independently owned Hispanic supermarket chain in the country, with stores from Orlando to Homestead, died on October 15 of complications from diabetes. He was 83 years old.

“I have a huge hole in my heart,” said Agustín “Tino” Herrán, Manuel’s eldest son, who serves as the chain’s general director.

Manuel Agustín Herrán arrived from Cuba to Miami as an immigrant, offering generations of cuban a taste of your long-lost country. But he himself was not Cuban.
