the milestone of 900,000 cases detected in Belgium has been exceeded, the average number of contaminations down

The Scientific Institute of Public Health also reports that 832 patients are in intensive care, which is slightly higher than the day before (822).

In intensive care, 478 patients require respiratory assistance. Between March 29 and April 4, an average of 263.3 people were admitted to hospital each day due to their coronavirus contamination, an indicator up 9% from the previous seven-day period. If the average continues to increase, growth seems less and less marked when it was 13% in Sunday’s report and 19% in that of Saturday.

Declining cases

Another good news: the number of new cases is decreasing slightly, by 6%. Between March 26 and April 1, 4,436 contaminations were recorded on average each day. Since the start of the epidemic, more than 900,000 infections have been recorded.

The number of deaths continues to increase, with 29.3 daily deaths on average between March 26 and April 1 (+ 4.1%). The Covid-19 claimed the lives of 23,169 people.

Stable positivity rate

The positivity rate, i.e. the proportion of positive tests compared to all screenings performed, stands at 7.8%, a stable percentage. The incidence, which indicates the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 557.7 over 14 days (+ 39%). Once again, the increase seems less marked than the previous days.

The reproduction rate of the virus is estimated to be 1.04. When it is greater than 1, the epidemic is considered to be strengthening.

Almost 1.5 million people received a first dose of the vaccine (16.3% of the adult population) and 569,101 a second injection (6.2% of those aged 18 and over).
