The museums invite to their annual celebration

This Saturday is celebrated International Museum Day and, to commemorate the date, museums and art centers open their doors to the public throughout the day, and many of them at night, in all cases for free.

In addition to inviting visitors to visit their treasures and collections, museums have also programmed various activities to attract an audience that, at least on this day, will no longer have the excuse of price or limitation of schedules.

A great opportunity to discover the Casa Masó de Girona, a building entirely designed, with interior design included, by the architect Rafael Masó. Or to visit the Púbol castle, although from the Dalí Foundation they report that all the places have been exhausted. In fact, the Dalí Museum in Figueres does not offer open doors because it is already the day of Reis, and the Dalí House of Portlligat does not enter the initiative either.

Yes most of the museums do it, from the Terra Alta of La Bisbal through the Darder of Banyoles, the Museum of the Saints of Olot or the one of the Cork of Palafrugell and all of the city of Girona, CaixaForum included.

With workshops, guided tours, concerts, audiovisual projections and other shows and activities for the whole family, the facilities of the Girona region add up massively to a planetary initiative.

International Museum Day opens the doors of the facilities responsible for conserving collective memory.

In Girona, the day coincides with Temps de Flors, which precisely on Saturday offers the last night of open courtyards, so the offer will be double because also in those hours the museums will have open doors and a program of activities that we announce in the agenda of this page.

In almost 40 countries of the Council of Europe, during one night, museums organize and organize visits, workshops, theatrical or musical spectacles, at an unusual time. Girona organizes Gironamuseus, and all the centers open doors and offer their festive face with free activities for everyone.

International Museum Day is celebrated every 18th of May from year 1977 around the world. This year, the theme chosen by the ICOM (International Council of Museums) to celebrate this festival is Museums as a cultural axis: The future of tradition.

In Catalonia there are 114 registered museums, with 118 extensions and 394 collections open to the public with a wide variety of themes. Museums of art, archeology and history, author, ethnology, palaeontology, ceramics, zoology, cinema or design.
