The Nets had taken Arthur from the Nuggets as part of a July 13 deal that also brought Kenneth Faried, a protected 2019 first-round pick and a 2020-second pick. The same day, the Nets also sent guard Jeremy Lin to the Atlanta Hawks for the design rights to Isaia Cordinier and another 2020 second round.
Earlier in the summer, the Nets swapped the center Timofey Mozgov for the Charlotte Hornets for Dwight Howard. Mozgov was later traded to the Orlando Magic as part of a three-team deal, while Howard was waived by the Nets and signed by the Washington Wizards.
