The return of the MacBook 12 “with an Apple Silicon chip in 2020 (iMac in 2021)?

The 12-inch MacBook (which remains available on the Refurb from -ouch- 1269 euros) could make a comeback before the end of the year.

The machine, extremely compact and light, has delighted mobile users who do not need a war machine. According to our colleagues from The China Times, a new iteration responding to the code name « Tonga » and equipped with an Apple Silicon A14X chip (engraved in 5nm by TSMC) would be revealed before the end of the year. The most compact of portable Macs would have at least one USB-C port, display a battery life of 15 to 20 hours and just under a kilogram on the scale.

The new machine could thus be the first portable Apple Silicon Mac to emerge, and would take the opportunity to offer much better performance than the 4.5W TDP Intel chips equipping the original model. As a reminder, the MacBook 12 “was fanless, therefore completely silent, but sometimes overheated, preventing some users pushing the machine to its limits from using it, particularly in overheated rooms in summer.

Journalists also mention the arrival of an iMac ARM with a graphics part integrated into the boosted SoC (code name Lifuka) for the second half of next year.

Does a MacBook 12 “ARM ring a bell?
