The Trump administration said it was widening travel restrictions from Europe to include the United Kingdom and Ireland, as countries around the world ran to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and mitigate economic damage.

The expanded European travel restriction was made after a “unanimous recommendation” from health experts on the White House coronavirus task force, said Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday, although US residents could have returned.
