Following the strategy to promote healthy and active aging in Gipuzkoa, they have innovated a television program to help older people exercise and ‘mindfulness’ or meditate in their homes; and thus enhance their physical and emotional well-being.
The TV show will air on ETB1, titled Adinberri, Monday through Friday, starting at 11:00 a.m. from April 14 next. It will last half an hour and will be divided into two parts: exercise and meditation. Each part will be handled by a team of experts on the subject. “We believe that it can be an important support for people’s physical health and emotional well-being; even in this difficult state of confinement, “said Eider Mendoza, a provincial spokesman. The session is produced by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
The exercise sessions will be led by Iñigo Vincens, who is an expert on the subject. During the 20-minute interval, he will do various exercises that can be followed at home. These exercises will be practiced by Vincens and are carried out by a team of experts from the University of the Basque Country (EHU-UPV) and Athlon S.Coop. Once the exercise is done, the session will be rounded up with a space for meditation. The sessions were created by the team of experts from the Baraka Institute of Integral Psychology and will be led by Zuriñe Hidalgo, who is trained in the subject. A total of 25 sessions will be broadcast throughout April and May.
In this way, in 30 minutes, the body and mind will work. The aim of the session is to “create a routine to support the activation and health of older people and make available resources for this purpose”, stressed Mendoza. As he recalled, by 2061, people over the age of 65 are expected to make up 33% of society, making it Europe’s highest life expectancy.
Experts say that exercising and meditating is important in order to delay your old age as much as possible and to fight life with happiness and positivism. It is not only important for physical, but also emotional improvement.
“They call for 30 minutes every day to activate the body and work the head; especially now, when we have to stay home We have launched this new initiative with the aim of responding to this need and with the aim of creating this positive routine, and we look forward to welcoming it, ”concluded Mendoza.
