TSE declares the request to disqualify the candidacy of President Bukele inadmissible

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) declared inadmissible the request to disqualify the candidacy of the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, for the next elections in 2024.

“The basis of the rejection is that an erroneous understanding of the diffuse control of constitutionality underlies the claims of the aforementioned lawyers, since, ultimately, what they want is for this Court to exercise a kind of abstract control of constitutionality, an aspect for which, as established in this resolution, this authority has no jurisdiction,” the resolution states.

This week, the Sumar movement publicly asked the TSE magistrates to decline the presidential candidacy of the president, Nayib Bukele.

Likewise, said movement that supported the presidential ticket of former ARENA member Luis Parada and Celia Medrano, who belonged to the FMLN, also urged opposition parties not to give up their right to compete in the 2024 elections and to persist to denounce and oppose the re-election.
