SEOUL, South Korea – The United States Supreme Envoy for North Korea has expressed confidence in North Korea's nuclear disarmament.
The slow pace of nuclear diplomacy has been a cause for concern since Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's fourth trip to Pyongyang earlier this month.
Stephen Biegun, US Special Representative for North Korea, was in Seoul on Monday to meet with South Korean officials.
Biegun says "absolutely convinced" that "the final and fully verified denuclearization of North Korea" is "at hand".
His South Korean counterpart, Lee Do-hoon, said: "The denuclearization process is at a critical stage and we need to meet as often as possible."
North Korea has taken measures such as the dismantling of its nuclear test sites, but the United States wants the North to take greater steps towards denuclearization.
