The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received an application from Pfizer and BioNTech. They want the authority to authorize their vaccine in emergency use for children aged 12 to 15.
As early as March, companies reported that the vaccine had been shown to be safe and effective in a clinical study in children. According to company data, the vaccine is 100% successful in adolescents aged 12 to 15 years. The side effects were the same as in the tests aged 16 to 25 years.
A total of 2,260 minors from the United States participated in the study, 1,129 of whom received placebo. Covid-19 was seen in 18 cases, but only in the placebo group.
According to the CNBC website, companies plan to apply for a similar exemption to other authorities, such as the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The Comirnata vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech is the most vaccinated in the world so far. In the Czech Republic, it accounts for 77% of already administered vaccine doses.
In addition to the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, the Czech Republic also vaccinates with the Moderna vaccine and the Vaxzevria vaccine from AstraZeneca. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is already approved in the European Union. It should arrive in the second half of April and its great advantage is that only one dose is given.
The chairman of the Czech Vaccinological Society, Roman Chlíbek, commented on the vaccination of children. Listen to his words:
