The Valenciennes hospital center has been broadcasting some of its surgical operations live on Facebook since the end of January. It is the first French hospital to set up such dissemination, acclaimed on social networks.
After the carpal tunnel, urinary stones. Fans of medical series can only rejoice at the new initiative of the Valenciennes hospital. Since the end of January, surgical teams have been broadcasting certain operations live on Facebook.
Show simple, bloodless operations
The hospital center chose to open (virtually) its operating theaters to the crowds after several requests “on social networks”, had entrusted Christopher Albano, of the communication department of the hospital, to our colleagues from The voice of the North.
On the eve of the first operation broadcast live, the communicator clarified that the professionals wanted to show a simple operation, normally without risk and not bloody.
Carpal tunnel and urinary stones
The objective of this initiative: “Open the blocks to show people how it works and reassure them”. The first surgery consisted in operating a carpal tunnel and it was a great success with Internet users. So much so that the hospital decided to repeat the operation.
Last week, internet users were able to follow a flexible laser ureteroscopy operation (treatment of urinary stones). The surgeon thus introduced a small flexible tube into the urethra, to reach the bladder, the ureter and finally the renal cavity. An operation to remove the clot by laser.
Ultimately, the Valenciennes hospital center could broadcast one operation per month. Always for purely educational purposes. The anonymity of the patients is obviously ensured by the medical teams.
