Vince Steckler died in a car accident. The man who pulled Avast to prominence

Avast announced today that its former CEO, Vince Steckler, died Tuesday at the age of 62 in a tragic car accident in Irvine, California.

Vince Steckler joined the CEO of the Czech company in 2009 and remained at its helm for over ten years. Thanks to his leadership, the company has become a global leader, which today protects the online world of more than 435 million customers worldwide.

Vince Steckler was, without exaggeration, the architect of Avast’s rapid growth. During his tenure, he managed strategic mergers and acquisitions, in particular the well-known acquisition of rival AVG Technologies, for $ 1.3 billion in 2016.

Under his leadership, Avast has grown from a company with revenues of less than twenty million dollars to more than eight hundred million dollars. In 2018, Avast successfully listed the LSE on the London Stock Exchange. Many current and former Avast employees who have worked with it over the years will be missing.

“The news of Vince’s sudden departure is overwhelming, and I can hardly express in words what a loss this is for all of us at Avast. Vince was a role model who shared the wisdom of his many years of career in technology and security, setting the pace by always demanding the best from himself and others, ”says Ondřej Vlček, CEO of Avast.

However, he allegedly perceives his death as a personal loss. “For me, he was a mentor, a leader and a friend with a unique sense of humor. At this difficult time, I would like to express my sincere condolences to his wife and children. We will never forget him, “Vlček added.

According to him, Vince Steckler was known for his dedication to Avast and his uncompromising focus on innovation and results. He believed in an inclusive world, both in Avast and beyond.

He and his wife worked on charity, and his philanthropic contributions included support for the Magical Bridge Foundation, a nonprofit initiative, and assistance in establishing the Center for Responsible, Ethical, and Accessible Technology at his alma mater, the University of California, Irvine.

“I’m leaving Vince deeply saddened. She was an extraordinary personality. A leader with a passion for his work who has achieved exceptional success. He has become a leader in cybersecurity, and the way he formed Avast continues to affect the entire company and will be for many years to come. He was a respected colleague and friend for me, we worked closely together for many years. I’m thinking of his family, “says John Schwarz, Chairman of the Board of Avast.

Prior to joining Avast, Vince Steckler served as senior vice president at Symantec Corporation, where he was responsible for $ 2 billion worldwide sales.

Prior to that, he gained experience during twenty years of work in software development, systems analysis, IT and business development. He holds a degree in mathematics from the University of California, Irvine, as well as in IT and computer science.

The survivors of Vince Steckler’s death are his wife Amanda and the children. Condolences can be sent by friends and the public by post to the headquarters of Avast at Pikrtov 1737, 140 00 Prague 4-Nusle, or by e-mail [email protected]
