KOMPAS.com – A video showing a group of fishermen catching dolphins has gone viral on Instagram.
In his upload, the video was sent by another netizen who mentioned the location of the arrest in the Pacitan area, East Java.
The sender of the message said the video was sourced directly from story WhatsApp the captain of the dolphin fishing boat.
The video shows a number of dolphins lying on the boat, while the crew is busy with the fishing process.

Public Relations of the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), Gatut Panggah Prasetyo, explained the viral video of the alleged capture of dolphins in Pacitan, East Java.

Gatut emphasized that the Ponorogo-Pacitan 6 Ponorogo-Pacitan Regional Conservation Resort (RKW) officers had coordinated with the Pacitan Resort Police regarding the incident in the video.
He stressed, dolphins are included in the list of animals protected by the Law.
“For the dolphin incident in Pacitan, BBKSDA RKW 6 Ponorogo-Pacitan officers received information from the Pacitan Police Satreskrim on January 8, 2022 morning,” said Gatut when confirmed Kompas.com, Saturday (8/1/2022).

According to him, until now the dolphin fishing boat is still in the middle of the sea and has not yet docked.
Currently, his party together with the Satreskrim Polres Pacitan are conducting an investigation related to the case.
“BBKSDA officers together with the Satreskrim are conducting an investigation while waiting for the ship to dock in the middle of the sea,” he explained.

The threat of catching dolphins
He also has not received further reports regarding the identity of the ship and the dolphin catching company.
For information, the prohibition on catching dolphins is enshrined in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.106/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/12/2018.
The regulation states that 904 species of animals and plants are protected, including dolphins.

Perpetrators of catching protected animals can be sentenced to imprisonment of up to five years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million.
The sanctions are in accordance with Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems.
In Article 21 paragraph 2, it is stated that everyone is prohibited from catching, injuring, killing, storing, possessing, maintaining, transporting, and trading protected animals both alive and dead.
