Circulation is important
Environmental protection is at the heart of Volvo and sustainability, less noise, less emissions and less CO2 are of the essence. Volvo Buses also has another application area.
Volvo Buses has years of experience with electromobility solutions from working closely with operators around the world. The new Volvo BZL Electric is designed for both single and double decker applications with multiple options for body builders.
“The new Volvo BZL Electric is based on proven and successful technologies that have already been implemented in Europe. All chassis and drivetrain components are designed and manufactured by Volvo. To ensure the premium quality of our buses, we work with selected body builders all over the world, ”says Dan Pettersson, Head of International at Volvo Buses.
An electric bus is always part of a system. Route length, frequency, capacity, fees and local regulations result in different solutions.

Safety is a guiding star at Volvo, and the new E_Bus meets the highest European standards for superior driveability and safe operation. It includes the latest offering in connected technology from Volvo Buses, Volvo Connect. With functions such as Volvo’s Zone Management, the driver can set up safety zones in which the maximum speed is limited, for example in front of a school or in a bus depot.
A first-class driving experience and charging flexibility
The Volvo BZL Electric has a drivetrain developed entirely by Volvo. The 200 kW electric motor is coupled with a two-stage automated transmission. This increases wheel torque at low speeds and smooths out current spikes, reducing energy consumption and maintaining the health of the motor and battery. The drivetrain can be configured as a single or dual motor unit with an output of no less than 540 hp. This makes the Volvo BZL Electric a tireless mountaineer and enables quick and smooth operation.
The Volvo BZL Electric is designed for charging flexibility and uses hardware interfaces both for OppCharge high-performance charging on the go and for CCS charging in the depot. Volvo Buses also offers a Usable Energy Commitment, which means that Volvo Buses guarantees the capacity for an agreed amount of energy to operate – eliminating any concerns from customers about batteries.
