What did Guardiola say after Manchester City was eliminated from the League Cup?

Manchester City were eliminated from the fourth round of the League Cup, by falling 3-5 on penalties against West Ham United, yesterday, Wednesday, after the regular time ended in a goalless draw.

Although the competition is ranked third in terms of importance in England, it holds a special place for Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, who won the title four times in a row.

Guardiola pushed a strong squad against West Ham, contrary to what most coaches do by involving the reserve team, as Raheem Sterling, Algerian Riyad Mahrez, Belgian Kevin De Bruyne, Brazilian Fernandinho, and German Ilkay Gundogan participated as key players.

“City” dominated possession and chances of the match, but failed to translate his chances, so the two teams ruled directly to the penalty shootout, in which luck smiled at West Ham.

Guardiola lamented the exclusion of his team, saying after the match: “We played well, and we had chances in the match against an opponent who knows how to defend. In the penalty shootout, they were better than us.”

He added, “This was one of our toughest matches against them. They are now in the quarter-finals of this tournament. West Ham are a great team with a great coach.”
