What Masks Can Protect Us the Most from the Delta Variant? : Okezone Lifestyle

VARIAN Delta has not only spread in Indonesia but has also dominated 83 percent of cases in the United States. The reason is, this one virus mutation is indeed more contagious than the Sars-CoV 2 corona virus.

One way that people can do to avoid being exposed to Covid-19 is to implement health protocols. The most effective way, of course, is to use a double mask.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former commissioner of the FDA, said that wearing masks also has its rules because you can’t just wear a mask. The quality of masks is very important, especially in the current conditions, when the more contagious Delta variant has dominated the spread of Covid-19 cases.

Then for protection against exposure to the Delta variant itself, what kind of mask is considered the most optimal to provide protection? Dr. Scott himself suggested wearing a KN95 or N95 type of mask.

“The quality of the masks is important. So if you can get a KN95 or N95 mask, it will give you more protection,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, as quoted by Fox News, Wednesday (28/7/2021).

Doctor Scott said, it was different from the early days of the pandemic when there was a shortage of masks. Currently, there are far more masks available in various varieties, so he reminded them not to buy and use masks carelessly. Because the quality of the mask really must be considered properly.

Both KN95 and N95 masks are known to be designed to filter 95 percent of the particles that enter the mask. Currently, the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) itself recommends that N95 masks be prioritized as PPE for health workers.

In addition to health workers, the CDC also recommends people, including essential workers and workers who routinely wear masks before the pandemic, to continue to wear N95 masks.

Regarding certain types of masks that are considered to provide better protection against the Delta variant, it is currently known that the CDC has not issued specific guidelines indicating that certain masks may offer better protection against the Delta variant.

The CDC recommends choosing a mask with two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric that fully covers the nose and mouth. The mask should fit snugly on the side of the face without gaps, and have a nose wire to prevent air leaking from above.
