The US State Department announced that applications are open from October 7 for the United States Diversity Visa Program for 2022 (DV-2022), also known as the Visa Lottery. These are some of the key questions in the process.

How many diversity visas are available?
According to the US Department, “For fiscal year 2022, up to 55,000 diversity visas will be available ”and“ there is no cost to register for the program ”.
What are the countries that are not eligible to apply?
People born in the following countries are not eligible to apply, according to the State Department. The reason is that more than “50,000 people from these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years.”

This means that citizens of countries such as Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Colombia, are not eligible. Dominican Republic Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and Vietnam.
According to the State Department, “Natives of countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States may be eligible to participate.”
When should applications be submitted?
Those who are interested in the process can submit their applications electronically from Wednesday October 7 to November 10. The recommendation is that applications are not filled in the last week, due to high demand.
Are there any work experience or study requirements?
It requires “at least secondary education or its equivalent (…)”, according to the State Department, or “two years of work experience in the last five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience” to perform.
