The ongoing winter vaccination campaign in Baja California Sur, aimed at protecting high-risk population groups against influenza, is making significant strides. The state has achieved a 62% advancement towards its set goal, with over 131,000 doses administered so far, according to Mexico’s Secretariat of Health (SSA).
Secretary of Health in the state, Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro, urged individuals aged 60 and above, pregnant women, and those with underlying medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart or lung disease, kidney failure, cancer, HIV, or other immune-suppressing illnesses to get vaccinated at their nearest health center, clinic, or hospital. These vaccinations are free of charge and can be obtained at public health facilities.
Guluarte Castro highlighted that the federal government delivered more than 211,000 doses of the flu vaccine to Baja California Sur, emphasizing the importance of these vaccinations in preventing severe flu complications and protecting vulnerable individuals.
She also reminded parents and guardians to ensure that children aged six months to five years receive the vaccination, as the flu vaccine is tetravalent, meaning it protects against four distinct flu strains.
Additionally, the state’s healthcare facilities are administering COVID-19 vaccines to adults aged 18 and older with comorbidities and those over the age of 60 to bolster their natural defenses against the virus, which continues to circulate in the community.
