Gruzija’s President Zurabishvili Vows to Serve Until Legitimate Parliament Elected

Gruzija’s President Salome Zurabishvili has asserted her legitimacy as the country’s leader, stating that a non-legitimate parliament cannot elect a new president. This declaration comes amidst political tensions following the October 2020 parliamentary elections, which have been marred by allegations of fraud and manipulation.

"I am the legitimate president, elected by the people, and therefore, an illegitimate parliament cannot elect a new president," Zurabishvili said in a statement. "Until a legitimate parliament is elected, my mandate continues."

The president’s stance echoes the sentiments of many Gruzija residents who have been calling for her continued leadership and the holding of fair, democratic elections. One social media user, identified only as "X," wrote, "Please look at the crowd cheering for the only legitimate president of Gruzija. To not support her continuous legitimacy and not put pressure on the regime to hold new, free, and fair elections is a betrayal of Gruzija."

The political landscape in Gruzija remains tense as the country awaits the resolution of the electoral dispute. The international community has been closely watching the situation, urging all parties to engage in dialogue and uphold democratic principles.

As the standoff continues, President Zurabishvili remains steadfast in her commitment to serve the people of Gruzija until a legitimate parliament is elected, ensuring that the democratic process is respected and restored.
