Good News for Recreatiepark De Kanthoeve Residents: Heating to Resume AfterMonth-Long Outage
After nearly a month of repairs, residents of Recreatiepark De Kanthoeve in Bakel can finally look forward to warmer times. The gas network, which has been offline since a December fire damaged a gas line, will be fully restored by the end of this week, a park official has confirmed.
Wendy van der Zalm, a member of the park’s board, broke the news to residents saying, "We’re on track to have all the houses reconnected to the gas network by the end of this week. The gas supply has been reopened for the park."
The gas leak, which occurred after a fire broke out on the park in early December, left 350 homes without heating, just as winter was setting in. Residents turned to electric heaters and cooktops to keep warm, which led to overloading the park’s electrical grid, resulting in power outages, including during the busy online shopping event, Pakjesavond.
Once the gas supply is restored, residents can expect a return to normalcy. They will be able to use their gas-powered heating, cook with gas stoves, and enjoy warm showers again, amenities many have missed dearly over the past weeks.
initially, the local municipality offered no alternative arrangements, but park officials eventually secured access to a nearby sports hall in Bakel where residents could take showers.
The challenges faced by Recreatiepark De Kanthoeve residents are not isolated incidents. Recently, other campers in the region have faced similar difficulties due to gas and power outages.
