Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, 74, has been discharged from a hospital in Washington D.C. after being treated for COVID-19, Reuters reports. Clinton’s spokesman, Angel Urena, confirmed the news.

Clinton was admitted to the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange on October 14, after he was diagnosed with the virus. doctors said he was receiving treatment with Remdesivir, an antiviral medication used to treat COVID-19.

In a statement, Urena said that Clinton was "deeply grateful for the outpouring of support" from around the world. "He is proud to be an American and humbled to have served as President of the United States," Urena added.

Clinton’s hospitalization comes as COVID-19 cases surge across the United States, with the virus mutating into new variants that are more contagious and potentially more vaccine-resistant. Health officials urge Americans to get vaccinated and booster shots to protect themselves and others from the virus.
