Rumania Denies Russian Rocket Entry into Its Airspace; Ukrainian Forces Claim Successful Defense
In a surprising turn of events, Romanian officials have denied that any Russian rocket entered their airspace during the massive strike on Ukraine in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25. Ukrainian forces, however, maintain they successfully defended their skies, intercepting a significant number of incoming projectiles.
According to a statement by Romanian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Constantin Spinu, as reported by Digi24 and "European Truth," no evidence supports Ukraine’s claim that a Russian rocket traversed Romanian airspace. Spinu asserted that while Ukrainian counterparts had alerted them about a Russian missile flying through Moldovan airspace, it did not cross into Romania.
Monitoring reports suggest the Russian projectile traveled around 140 kilometers through Moldovan and Romanian territories before potentially entering the latter country near the city of Darabani. However, Romanian military systems detected no such incursion.
Spinu vowed that competent institutions within the Romanian Ministry of Defense would continue investigating the incident to clarify its circumstances fully.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed detecting a ballistic missile headed towards Chernivtsi from Moldovan territory at 7:24 AM, local time. Unconfirmed reports claim the rocket originated in the Yampil region of Vinnytsia Oblast (Ukraine).
Russian forces launched a fresh wave of attacks across Ukraine overnight, targeting cities such as Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, as well as Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky revelated that Russia fired more than 70 rockets and over 100 drones at Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense systems managed to shoot down about 50 missiles and a substantial number of drones.
