Authorities Investigate Body Found in Airplane Wheel Well on United Airlines Flight from Chicago to Maui
In an astonishing discovery, Hawaiian authorities are investigating the finding of a corpse in the wheel well of a United Airlines flight that traveled from Chicago to Maui on Christmas Eve. The grim revelation occurred on a Boeing 787-10 aircraft, as reported by CNN. Remarkably, the flight, designated as UA202, arrived in Hawaii on Tuesday afternoon, its schedule unaffected, as per records from FlightAware.com.
United Airlines spokesperson stated, "Access to the wheel well could only be gained from outside the aircraft," adding, "At this time, it’s unclear how or when the individual gained access to the wheel well."
The cause of death and how the individual ended up in the wheel well remain unknown. Stowing away in airplane wheel wells is a perilous practice often resorted to by illegal passengers, or ‘stowaways’. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a staggering 77% of such attempts have resulted in fatalities.
Airplane wheel wells provide little space, often less than a car trunk, and stowaways risk being crushed when the landing gear retracts.
