Kollum Resounds with Christmas Cheer: Annual Caroling Event Spreads Joy on First Christmas Morning
In the misty early hours of Christmas Day, a heartwarming tradition echoed through the streets of Kollum. As the sun began to rise, a contingent of around 50 residents gathered at Meckama State, kicking off the town’s annual Christmas morning caroling event, organized by PKN Kollum.
The group, capturing a commemorative photo by the Christmas tree, then launched into a beautiful rendition of a traditional festive song, their voices harmonizing to fill the crisp morning air. Following this spirited performance, participants were divided into two groups, led respectively by Roeland Westra and Evert Groendijk. At precisely 6:00 am, both groups set off, navigating their respective routes on bicycle.
Throughout their journey, carolers sang at the homes of individuals facing challenging times or dealing with illness, offering them a morale boost and a momento of holiday cheer. The first group, accompanied by the Wilhelmina brass band, commenced their route at Augsbuurt’s church, then journeyed through Kollum Noord, Meckama, Hiddestate, the Hammeren, and the Ermeline before concluding their journey at Meckama State. Meanwhile, the second group followed a route tailored to their group’s preferences.
Reuniting at Meckama State, the entire group joined together once more to sing a few more carols, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared holiday spirit. The event concluded with a warm drink and a piece of Christmas bread, providing a cozy and fitting finale to Kollum’s cherished annual tradition.
