The fact that over 200 settlements are without power is scandalous. Even more concerning is that the minister is threatening ERPs (Electricity Distribution Companies), claiming they are responsible for the instability. Citizens have been freezing for days during the holidays, and unstable power is not warming them up, declared Delyan Peevski, leader of DPS – Novo Vreme.

Peevski demands that KEVR (Commission for Energy and Water Regulation) immediately initiates an investigation into the investments and technical security of the networks. He warns that if the crisis persists, strict sanctions such as revoking licenses of the companies should be imposed. "If KEVR does not act urgently, I will involve all relevant institutions for a full audit of the electricity distribution companies," Peevski threatened.

Peevski commented, "There is no reason in the 21st century to allow thousands to remain without power in European Bulgaria, and for the responsible companies to go unpunished."

Without electricity, hotels in Bulgarian ski resorts are canceling New Year’s Eve reservations, according to a related news article.
