Medan Doctor’s actions spark controversy, leading to hospital transfer
A viral video of a doctor at RSUD Pirngadi Hospital in Medan has sparked a heated controversy, resulting in the doctor, Koas Fladiniyah, being transferred back to the faculty of the University of North Sumatra (USU) where she is also a lecturer. The incident, which involved an altercation with a roti (bread) vendor, has caused significant backlash both online and offline.
Dr. Fladiniyah, a faculty member of the USU Medical School, had been seconded to the hospital. However, following the incident and the subsequent uproar, the hospital has decided to return her to her original post at the university. The hospital’s spokesperson stated, "The decision was not due to any disciplinary actions or because of any viral posts or comments, but rather to maintain the stability and order of the hospital environment."
The incident began when Dr. Fladiniyah confronted a roti vendor over the price of bread, which she felt was not proportional to the amount she received. A video of the exchange, captured by a bystander, shows Dr. Fladiniyah getting increasingly agitated and physically pushing the vendor’s cart, causing her goods to spill onto the ground.
The vendor, a woman in her late 50s, was left distraught and in tears following the incident. She recounted, "I’ve been selling roti for over 20 years, and I’ve never had such an encounter. I understand that everyone wants a fair price, but there’s no need for violence."
The video quickly spread across social media, with many users expressing their disapproval of Dr. Fladiniyah’s actions. Some even called for her to face disciplinary action. Despite this, Dr. Fladiniyah’s supporters argue that she was simply defending the rights of consumers.
This incident serves as a reminder that while everyone has a right to express their opinions and advocate for change, it is crucial to do so in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals, especially those in vulnerable positions.
