Who Will Receive 21,000 Hryvnias for Firewood This Year

Ukrainians to Receive Financial Aid for Winter Fuel Expenses

In a move to support vulnerable households ahead of the winter season, the Ukrainian government has approved a financial assistance program that could provide up to 21,000 UAH to eligible citizens. This initiative aims to help low-income households that rely on wood or coal to heat their homes, with the amount of support varying according to each household’s income level.

The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine announced that around 500,000 households receiving housing subsidies and entitled to fuel discounts will be able to access this additional financial support. The exact amount of aid will be determined individually, with the total not exceeding 21,000 UAH.

"We’re preparing for winter by combining state and international partner efforts," said Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zhonovych. "The recently adopted decree allows us to increase the amount of funds recompensed to low-income citizens, enabling them to purchase fuel for the winter and safely navigate the heating season."

This assistance aims to bolster Ukrainians in need, focusing on those already beneficiaries of housing subsidies and discounts on solid fuel purchases during the winter months. The program is set to run for several months, with eligible citizens expected to receive funds by the end of December 2024.

Currently, there is no need for those already receiving subsidies or discounts to take any additional action. The Pension Fund of Ukraine possesses the requisite information to deposit funds directly onto recipients’ bank cards. However, applicants yet to secure these benefits should submit an application to the Pension Fund in accordance with established procedures, either online or in person.
