Bulgarian Pop Star Vanja Teoharova Passes Away on Christmas
Bulgarian music icon Vanja Teoharova has sadly passed away during the Christmas holidays. The news was confirmed by fellow singer Maya Nezhkova, with whom Teoharova performed in the trio "Obekтив."
Nezhkova paid tribute to Teoharova, "A talented, controversial, and provocative personality… Rest in peace…愿你一路好走 (Nuwennungzhang), toward the stars!"
Vanja Teoharova was born on November 26, 1956, in Asenovgrad. She graduated from the Bulgarian State Conservatory in 1976, under the tutelage of Stefan Anastasov.
As a first-year student, Teoharova was invited to join "Studio V" following Ani Varbanova’s departure, where she stayed for ten months until the group’s dissolution. In her second year, she became the lead vocalist of "Obekтив," alongside Nezhkova and Violetta Onikyan. The trio released one major vinyl record together.
Teoharova was married to "Obekktiv’s" manager, Nikolai "Be.’/чу Куюмджиев, for eight years. The couple divorced following the trio’s disbandment. Throughout her career, she embarked on two extensive tours in Mongolia and Algeria to celebrate "1300 Years of Bulgaria."
After the group’s split in 1984, Teoharova launched her solo career. She performed in Japan, Algeria, Czech Republic, Greece, and Cyprus. The Golden Fund of the Bulgarian National Radio houses around 80 of her songs.
NOVA’s team extends their deepest condolences to Teoharova’s family and friends. Her immense contributions to Bulgarian pop music will forever be remembered and cherished.
