Benjamin Netanyahu Admitted to Hospital for Planned Prostate Surgery
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was admitted to a Tel Aviv hospital on Tuesday for a planned prostate surgery, his office confirmed. The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday and Netanyahu is expected to remain in the hospital for several days afterwards.
The 71-year-old Israel‘s longest-serving prime minister will undergo a minimally invasive prostatectomy, a common procedure for prostate cancer. Netanyahu’s office has stated that the cancer was discovered early and that the surgery is expected to be straightforward.
Netanyahu, who has been leading Israel since 2009, will delegate his duties during his hospital stay. He has maintained a grueling schedule despite his legal troubles, with three corruption trials currently ongoing.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men in Israel and worldwide. Early detection and treatment significantly improve the chances of a cure and allow patients to maintain a good quality of life.
