Breaking News: Man Dies in Fire at Abandoned NKJZI Building in Border Village of Kardam
In a tragic incident, a 59-year-old man lost his life in a fire that engulfed an abandoned building in the border village of Kardam, Bulgaria. The fire, reported around 08:00 AM this morning, claimed the life of the man, whose body was found charred at the scene.
The building, once owned by NKJZI, was abandoned years ago. Kardam’s mayor, Georgi Sabev, confirmed to bTV that the structure had been declared unsafe and vacated, but not demolished. The building, once housing eight apartments for railway workers, was left to deteriorate.
The victim, a local resident, had been squatting in the abandoned building after losing his home. Authorities suspect that a stove fuelled by solid fuel may have been the cause of the blaze.
This incident comes amidst a surge in fires across the country. According to a related report, firefighters extinguished a total of 101 fires nationwide over the past 24 hours.
The Bulgarian Interior Ministry and local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and have expressed their deepest condolences to the victim’s family.
