New Year’s Day Sees Intensified Road Safety Enforcement

Just like on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the National Highway Safety Administration (ANSV) continued its road safety enforcement throughout New Year’s Day, aiming to ensure driver safety during one of the year’s busiest traveling periods.

The safety measures included alcohol tests, verification of mandatory driving documents, seat belt and child seat usage, motorcycle helmet use, and correct license plate placement.

The most significant case was reported in Santa Lucía, San Juan province, where a driver repeatedly tried and failed to complete the alcohol test, taking several minutes to do so. After multiple warnings from authorities, the driver successfully completed the test and registered an alcohol level of 2.85 grams per liter of blood.

New Year’s Day Operations Results:

  • 94 operations conducted
  • 5,121 vehicles inspected
  • 247 drivers penalized
  • 193 positive alcohol tests
  • 31 drivers lacked necessary documentation
  • 185 driving licenses retained
  • 100 vehicles detained

Highest Alcohol Levels Registered:

  1. 2.85 g/L in Santa Lucía, San Juan
  2. 2.24 g/L at the Peaje Hudson toll booth on the Buenos Aires – La Plata highway
  3. 2.24 g/L in Santa Lucía, San Juan
  4. 1.94 g/L in San Luis, San Juan
  5. 1.91 g/L on the Riccheri highway in Buenos Aires

ANSV warned that driving under the influence of alcohol is extremely dangerous, as it impairs reflexes, affects perception, and slows reaction times, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

To protect all road users and raise awareness about responsible driving, ANSV continues to enforce traffic rules in strategic locations across the country, particularly in areas with high vehicle traffic.
