Ukraine‘s Foreign Minister Outlines Expectations for Poland‘s EU Presidency
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sybiha has detailed his country’s hopes for Poland’s presidency of the European Union, which began on January 1, 2025. He shared these expectations in a series of tweets, as reported by "Eurointegration."
Minister Sybiha expressed high expectations for the first half of 2025, hoping for strong leadership and resolve from Poland at the helm of the EU. He also expressed optimism about strengthening cooperation with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, to push forward the EU-Ukraine agenda.
Key among Ukraine’s expectations are new initiatives to bolster military support and escalate sanctions against the aggressor. Additionally, Ukraine awaits progress in its EU accession process, including the opening of Cluster 1 and other clusters in the screening process.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had previously hinted that Poland’s EU presidency could coincide with significant developments in the Ukraine conflict. His priorities for the presidency include security, energy, and competitiveness, areas particularly relevant to Ukraine’s European aspirations.
In light of these expectations, all eyes are on Poland as it leads the EU through the first half of 2025, with potentially pivotal moments ahead for Ukraine’s future in Europe.
