This is one of the year’s most significant meteor showers, with others expected in April, May, July, August, November, and December.
January 13: "Wolf Moon" – First Full Moon of 2025
The first full moon of 2025, called the "Wolf Moon," peaks on January 13 at 17:27 EST (05:27 WIB on January 14). Historically, this full moon inspired Native American cultures to howl like wolves, UC Berkeley’s Sky & Telescope reports.
January 16: Mars’ Closest Approach to Earth in 2025
On January 16, Mars will be at its closest point to Earth, approximately 58 million miles apart. During this time, Mars will be visible almost all night, appearing particularly red and brilliant due to the oxidation of iron on its surface.
January 22: The Grand Finale of the "Parade of Planets"
The last day of January will showcase the planets Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars together in the predawn sky, a spectacle NASA calls the "Parade of Planets." This particular gathering will be the final opportunity to see all four bright planets together this year.
