Passengers on the Tren Interurbano México-Toluca (TIMT) were left stranded for over an hour yesterday afternoon due to a power outage that affected two stations: Santa Fe in Mexico City and Zinacantepec in Valle de Toluca.
Social media reports showed that a train bound for Zinacantepec was left without power shortly after departing from Santa Fe. Passengers detailed that the incident caused a tense situation, with some experiencing anxiety attacks. After about an hour, the service was restored.
At the Santa Fe station in the Cuajimalpa borough, passengers looking to board "El Insurgente" train faced long lines as the power outage had caused delays.
The power cut is reminiscent of similar incidents in mid-November, where electrical faults at Lerma station led to delays of up to two hours for commuters.
As of publication, the operating company behind the Tren Interurbano, the National Bank of Public Works and Services (Banobras), has yet to comment on the cause of the power outage.
This inconvenience comes amidst growing concerns over the reliability and safety of the newly inaugurated TIMT line, which aims to reduce travel time between Mexico City and Toluca.
