Tangerang Battles Foot and Mouth Disease: Mass Vaccination Campaign Launched
In a proactive move to combat the ongoing prevalence of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in livestock, the Tangerang City Government (Pemkot Tangerang), through the Food Security Agency (DKP), has initiated a large-scale vaccination drive. The campaign commencement was marked at Gunawan Livestock Group in Karawaci on January 3, 2025.
Dr. H. Ibnu Ariefyanto, Head of the Agriculture Division, expressed the city’s current status as severely affected by the disease, given its role as a major livestock market. "We’ve vaccinated 14 heads of livestock today at Gunawan Livestock Group. Our prevention strategy includes advising pet owners to purchase vaccinated cattle from other regions to halt further spread," he explained.
Currently, Tangerang City possesses 1,600 vaccine doses, targeting 1,500 heads of cattle for FMD vaccination. The drive, which began on December 29, 2024, is expected to continue until January 7, 2025.
"Our situation remains controlled, and vaccination continues. We’ve also received 800 additional doses from the Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Indonesia, totaling our current stock to 1,600 doses," Ariefyanto assured. Beyond vaccination, pet owners are provided disinfectants and vitamins to support their livestock’s immune systems.
Gunawan, a local livestock owner, commends Pemkot Tangerang’s vaccination campaign, expressing hope that the disease outbreak will swiftly resolve. "I’m deeply grateful to Pemkot Tangerang for vaccinating my cattle. Despite my small-scale operation, they ensure my livestock’s health, offering me significant support."
