Large Fire Engulfs House in Ossendrecht, Netherlands; No Injuries Reported
A significant fire swept through a detached house on Nieuwe Dijk in Ossendrecht on Friday evening, with the blaze starting on the attic around 7 PM and quickly engulfing the entire upper floor, according to the Veiligheidsregio Midden- en West-Brabant. The fire was under control by 8:45 PM.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the residents managed to evacuate the premises in time. The cause of the fire is suspected to be an open fireplace and chimney, though investigations are ongoing.
Multiple fire trucks from nearby stations in Ossendrecht, Hoogerheide, Bergen op Zoom, and even the Belgian town of Berendrecht were dispatched to extinguish the fire. Firefighters worked to prevent the spread of the blaze to an adjacent shed and used water transportation to ensure an ample water supply.
The intense smoke from the fire caused disruptions in the area, so local authorities advised residents to keep their windows and doors closed and turn off mechanical ventilation. The smoke was so dense that it reached as far as Antwerp, prompting similar warnings there.
