California‘s Governor Newsom couvent JC Annual State of the State Address and Budget Presentation
CALIFORNIA, USA — In an unexpected move, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced he will unify his annual State of the State address with the presentation of the state’s budget, rolling them out together ahead of schedule. This move, he hopes, will provide a clearer picture of California’s financial state before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.
Newsom made the announcement in a press conference held in Oakland, expressing his excitement about combining the two traditionally separate events. "I thought it would make things easier for everyone if I combined them into one presentation," he said.
With more than a third of California’s budget, totaling around $153 billion, coming from federal funds, and significant portions allocated to health and social services, as well as education and labor, the potential impacts of Trump’s new administration are far-reaching. By combining and accelerating his speech and budget presentation, Governor Newsom aims to bring attention to the state’s financial vulnerabilities and offer solutions to protect key programs.
Earlier, following Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential elections, Newsom established a $25 million fund to protect fundamental rights, particularly regarding climate change, immigration, and reproductive health.
