In a significant step towards ensuring food security and nutrition for millions, Indonesia’s Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program commences nationwide starting January 6, 2025. With 190 operational kitchen units known as Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG), the program aims to provide free, nutritious meals to the needy.

The Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN) confirmed the operational readiness of these 190 kitchens, spread across various regions. The breakdown reveals the highest concentration in Jawa Barat with 57 locations, followed by other provinces such as Aceh, Bali, Banten, DIY, Jakarta, and others, spanning the length and breadth of Indonesia.

Speaking about the initiative, Kepala Biro Hukum dan Humas BGN Kombes Pol Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan expressed, "These are the 190 operational kitchen locations as of January 6, 2025."

Previously, Kepala Badan Gizi Nasional Dadan Hindayana had assured that the program would indeed roll out on January 6, 2025, with an initial reach of 3 million beneficiaries. "We’re starting with 3 million recipients, and we’ll incrementally increase that number until we reach 17 million by the end of 2025," he stated following his participation in the CPP 2025 in Jakarta.

In this groundbreaking step, the Indonesian government hopes to address hunger and malnutrition by providing accessible, nutritious meals to millions of citizens, setting a precedent for a healthier, hunger-free Indonesia.
