Middelburg Police Hauls Two Drunken Drivers Off Roads in One Evening
In an evening sweep, police in the Dutch city of Middelburg apprehended two drivers under the influence of alcohol. The incidents, occurring within a quarter of an hour, resulted in the temporary removal of potentially dangerous drivers from the road.
The first driver intercepted was a 62-year-old Middelburg resident. Around 8:15 PM, police spotted him driving down the Nieuwe Vlissingseweg. Suspecting impairment, officers pulled him over and administered an alcohol test. The results were damning; he blew 625 μg/L on the breathalyzer, far exceeding the legal limit of 350 μg/L. Subsequently, he was arrested and taken to the local police station.
barely fifteen minutes later, at approximately 8:45 PM, a 35-year-old driver was apprehended in Sint Jansteen, near the Van Hovestraat. He was also subjected to a breathalyzer test at the police station, registering 415 μg/L. Though slightly below the previous driver’s results, his reading was still over the legal limit, warranting his arrest.
These incidents serve as stark reminders of the dangers posed by drinking and driving. The police, in their commitment to maintaining road safety, will continue to monitor and apprehend such offenders. Locals are advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious or erratic driving to the authorities.
