Ukraine Set for Short-Term Temperature Hike; January Outlook Stable
Brace yourselves for a quick temperature boost in Ukraine, set to arrive later this week, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (Ukrhydromet). Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming weather changes and January’s outlook.
Imminent Warm Spell
Starting from January 5 to 6, nighttime temperatures will range between -2°C to -9°C, while daytime temperatures will hover around -3°C to +2°C, with exceptions to the West and South where temperatures could reach +1°C to +6°C on Monday.
However, the heat is about to turn up, with Ukrainians expected to enjoy a considerable 5°C to 7°C temperature increase as early as January 7th. This warm spell is set to bring post-new-year relief from the chill, at least for a few days.
Ongoing Weather Developments
Anticipate mostly dry conditions across the country on January 5th, with only the Carpathian Mountains and Zakarpattia region expecting minor snowfall. On January 6th, expect isolated showers or light snowfall in the western, northern, central, and Харьковская (Kharkiv) regions. The rest of the country should remain unaffected by rain or snow.
Gusty winds are also forecast for January 7th, with gusts potentially reaching 15-20 meters per second in certain areas.
January 2025 Outlook
Looking ahead, Ukraine can expect an average monthly temperature ranging from 0°C to -3°C, with the exception of Zakarpattia, Crimea, Odesa, and Kherson regions, which might see temperatures from 0°C to +2°C – approximately 1.5°C to 2°C above normal.
January’s overall precipitation is predicted to be within normal limits, hovering between 33-79 millimeters.
